Ajwain

Description :
This is an effect annual herb with much branched and leafy stem,small leaves,white flowers in bunches and tiny fruits.The herb resembles sowa plant leaves resemble coriadrum sativum leaves.
Ajwain fruit is avoid in shape and of greyish brown color,having tubercular surface with five prominent ridges to each mericarp. Its odour is agreeable and taste aromatic and warming.

Action and Uses:
Ajwain has carminative,stimulant tonic,sedative anti spasmodic,warning and drying actions.It is beneficially used in flatulent abdomen and colic, indigestion, diarrhoea and atonic dyspepsia,coughs especially whooping cough and asthma.

Ibn sina’s view:
Ajwain has deobtruent with desiccative and lexative effects.Useful in pyo-thorax,hyper-secretion of stomach and nausea Excellent for chronically impaired stomach and liver also diuretic, lithontriptic, carminative and anti-spasmodic.
